New website
Spalding Mill W... — 7 June 2009 - 4:39pm
Spalding Mill's new website is up and running. It's quite a departure from the old website and will allow the board and various committees to more effectively communicate with the neighborhood. In addition to the new look, we've added (or will soon be adding) a number of new features.
- An Event Calendar for both neighborhood and local events.
- Resident only sections, accessible once you create an account. Some of the sections we have planned include
- A neighborhood directory. You can choose whether or not to be visible in the directory when you create your account.
- Classified ads for residents who have items for sale or services to offer.
- The ability for residents to add comments to postings on the website.
- The ability for members of the various committees to add postings.
While we certainly hope you enjoy the new site, we also hope that you will let us know if there is anything we can add to make the site better or more useful. If you find anything the doesn't work the way you expect or find something on the site that simply seems broken, please contact the Board Secretary as soon as possible.
Ideally, we would like to get away from printing out fliers and begin using email and the website as much as possible for communication with the homeowners and residents of Spalding Mill; everything we don't have to have printed is a cost savings for the neighborhood. For now, however, we plan to continue the current practice of periodic newsletters and fliers, at least until we can get some consensus from the community on moving to an electronic format.
One thing we would like to address right off is why we ask for your street address (or the street address of the home you own in Spalding Mill for non-resident homeowners), an email address, and a phone number during account creation. The primary reason is so that we can ensure only Spalding Mill homeowners and residents have access to information not intended for the general public. The secondary reason is so that we have a means of contacting homeowners if there is urgent information we (the board) need to pass on to them. No, we are not going to spam your email with junk and we are certainly not going to sell this information to some third party. Finally, we ask for the information for inclusion in the neighborhood directory. Inclusion in the directory is completely voluntary.
